Greek restaurant Avra opens first in Dallas, but the company is interested in other Texas cities.
Avra's co-founders pride themselves on serving healthy food in a fine setting. The whole fish is an example, said co-founder Nick Tsoulos. Avra is expected to expand into Uptown Dallas in 2025.
Construction is underway in Uptown Dallas for Avra, a 14,000-square-foot seafood restaurant that originated in New York City. Co-founder Nick Tsoulos grew up in the Greek village of Nafpaktos, and he said the restaurant serves fresh seafood and vegetables similar to the dishes he grew up eating. There’s one big difference here: Avra is not a mom and pop shop in a Mediterranean village. It’s a high-end restaurant that, in Dallas, will include an enclosed, glass cafe they call “the conservatory room” as part of its sprawling space designed by architect David Rockwell.
Michelin Guide named Avra in New York’s Rockefeller Center as one of its go-to spots for a power lunch“For serious business deals, the quieter downstairs room is the place to sit, but see-and-be-seen types command a perch in the main space,” the Michelin Guide said of Avra Rockefeller. It gets more specific: “Here’s an insider tip: The tables numbered in the 20s and 40s are hot commodities.”It’s too early to know which tables will be hot in Dallas, but that’s a fascinating detail from NYC.
The 16-layer chocolate cake at Avra is a signature dish, the co-founder said. Look for it when Avra opens in Uptown Dallas in 2025.Avra had just one restaurant in New York for 15 years before Tsoulos and his team grew the business. He said the team has been looking at Dallas since “right after COVID-19.” Whenopened in Dallas, Tsoulos saw an opportunity for Avra to be part of a swing of upscale restaurants moving into North Texas. They’re looking at other Texas cities as well.
