What are Tom Brady's best fits—for him, personally—in free agency if he doesn't retire? Let's rank them. NFL
Tom Brady sent a blunt and resounding message on his weekly podcast with Jim Gray on Monday when he
Brady will have suitors. There are plenty of teams that will want his service, but which franchises are best forStephen Ross and Tom Brady have made googly eyes at each other since Brady was under contract with thein 2019. A planned negotiation on a yacht went awry when new-at-the-time head coach Brian Flores put the kibosh on it when Brady was slated to hit free agency in 2020.
While Purdy’s success has been a fantastic story this season, the 49ers have beaten two teams with a winning record with Purdy under center as of this writing. Going into next season with last season’s Mr. Irrelevant, a completely unproven Trey Lance, and no backup plan with a Super Bowl-ready roster is borderline malpractice. Teams in the NFL should be trying to aggressively improve and capitalize on their window to win a championship.
The Raiders should be better next season even without Brady just by sheer regression to the mean. They blew five leads of seven or more points in 2022 and went 3-9 in games decided by one possession.
From a football standpoint, this makes sense too. New England has four of their five offensive line spots solidified for next season, with a glaring hole at tackle they can choose to fill in free agency or in the first round of the draft. The offense currently has solid supporting pieces . The acquisition of a true No. 1 receiver is needed and would tie the pieces on the depth chart together nicely, but the fact remains: this is not the team bereft of weapons Brady left in 2020.
While this all sounds good, the Jets just lack the star power present on the offenses in Miami, San Francisco, and Las Vegas. They lack the narrative punch of the Patriots. Wilson and Moore are excellent young players, but they are not Hill and Waddle nor the 49ers’ wrecking crew, or Adams and company in Las Vegas. I’d potentially even argue in favor of a New England receiving corps with, say, DeAndre Hopkins and Meyers, provided they keep their auxiliary pieces.
