The theater closed in 2017 and an open house is planned for the spring.
but the reopening of the West Shore Theatre in New Cumberland will soon take place.
An open house will be held in conjunction with New Cumberland Community Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 7. Plans are still in the works but the first movie showing is planned for that night with a grand opening planned for the following weekend. Officials said more information will be available at a later time.
The West Shore Theatre was built in 1939 and showed its first film on Jan. 20, 1940 with a showing of “The Secret Life of Dr. Kildare”. The theatre closed in December 2017. Last year, the nonprofit group, Friends of the West Shore Theatre group announced that it had received enough money in grants and donations to complete renovations of the theater, located at 317 Bridge St. A big part of the project’s cost is a new, up-to-date digital projector, as well as stage lighting and upgraded video and audio equipment.
