Moriah Had Alopecia Areata Moriah revealed in the most recent episode of Welcome To Plathville season 5 that she had a rare form of alopecia as a child, alopecia areata. According to the National Institute Of Health, alopecia areata occurs when "the immune system attacks hair follicles and causes hair loss." Hair loss can be minimal, but the outcome changes from person to person in terms of just how much hair is lost.
She Felt Different For Years Although Moriah was young when she was first diagnosed with alopecia, it was clear to her that she was different from her family and peers. She explained during the most recent episode of Welcome To Plathville season 5 that she felt different for years, losing confidence in herself entirely. Moriah shared that she, "would look myself in the mirror and I would say, 'You are ugly.
Moriah's Hair Grew Back Years Later Moriah's alopecia thankfully reversed itself after years of dealing with tremendous hair loss. After being entirely bald, including her eyelashes and eyebrows falling out, Moriah's hair grew back as she grew up. The damage, unfortunately, was already done when it came to Moriah's overall confidence. As she's grown older, Moriah has been able to see that dealing with something so traumatic at such a young age has helped her to mature.
