Steve-O candidly defends Jackass against accusations of it being outdated. The original series, created by Jeff Tremaine, Spike Jonze, and Johnny Knoxville, aired on MTV back in 2000, and followed a group of stunt performers who attempted various over the top pranks. While the franchise has grown in popularity, releasing several feature films including Jackass 3D and 2022's Jackass Forever, some of the humor and dangerous actions recorded have become a source of contention among audiences.
"Wow! God, people are so f——ng p——ified! I think Jackass ages pretty well. The spirit of it is really wholesome. For all the terrible s—t that we do to ourselves and each other, we’re such willing participants. We’re just attention whores battling for screen time, and we want the terrible s—t to be happening to us so badly that there’s nothing wrong with enjoying seeing it happen. None of the pranks are malicious or mean-spirited.
