We reviewed Lancashire's answer to Greggs, that always has a queue out of the door
If you're ever walking around a new town at lunchtime, a good piece of advice is to see where the locals are queuing to eat.
I visited on a sunny Thursday afternoon and St Annes was filled with tourists and locals alike. I peered into Bakes and Cakes to ponder over whether or not I should join the mammoth queue that had just formed. Noticing that the people lined up were actually getting served quickly, I decided to join before it got out of control. For most people, standing in a queue and having a quick look inside the shop would be enough time to decide what you wish to order, but for the indecisive amongst us, it's not that easy.
Ignoring those because my sweet tooth is non-existent, I head straight to the savoury counter and bask in all its glory. Overwhelmed with indecision once again, my eye is caught by a rather unusual pasty, 'cheese and jalapeno'. The pasty was radiating heat from its packaging, which already scores it a point against Greggs as that's notoriously cold most of the time. I dive in and I already know I made the right choice, the pastry is buttery and flaky and the filling is bursting at the seams.
