Moderna is prepping to ask the FDA for approval of its COVID-19 vaccine for children between 6 months and 6 years old in light of new research data.

"Given the need for a vaccine against COVID-19 in infants and young children we are working with the U.S. FDA and regulators globally to submit these data as soon as possible," Stéphane Bancel, chief executive officer of Moderna, said in the statement."We remain committed to helping to end the COVID-19 pandemic with a vaccine for children of all ages"

Moderna is also submitting approval for emergency use authorization of its COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 6 to 11. Right now, children ages 5 through 11 years are only eligible to receive the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, according to theModerna's request for COVID-19 vaccines for kids ages 6 months to under 6 years comes a little over a month after thethat Pfizer's vaccine for a similar age group was postponed.
