Students from at least one Bellevue school walked out of class Monday in support of Palestine.
Now, some parents believe the district should have done more to prevent the walkout from happening on theKOMO News saw at least a half dozen students meeting around 11 a.m. at the flagpole at Interlake High School in Bellevue where organizers had said to go for the walkout. School staff asked the KOMO News crews to leave the area after saying they were monitoring the situation and making sure everyone stayed safe.
Parents submitted a letter with about 1,000 signatures last week to Bellevue School District leaders urging them to prevent rallies during school hours that reference or relate to October 7 or the war in the Middle East and to reiterate zero tolerance for hate speech.Seattle rally commemorates victims of Oct. 7 Hamas attack
“October 7 is a day of somber remembrance for what was the third-deadliest global terrorist attack in recent history. While students may be protesting to advocate for or against global policy solutions, choosing to do so on October 7 is extremely likely to negatively impact their Jewish classmates—and is likely to be experienced or interpreted as antisemitism and discriminatory harassment.
