Washington Heights fire kills elderly couple in their home, FDNY says
A fire in a Manhattan apartment building killed two elderly residents early Tuesday morning, according to police and fire department officials.
Deputy Assistant Chief of fire operations Malcolm Moore told reporters at the scene that units encountered “heavy fire venting from three windows on the top floor,” which quickly spread to the area just below the building’s roof and to an apartment below. “One was found in the front room, and once the units were able to battle past the heavy fire condition throughout a large portion of the apt, they found a second victim, we believe the male, in the back bedroom,” he said.
