The Wallace College baseball continued its recent strong play, sweeping Bevill State on Sunday.
NATHANIEL FRAZIER For the Eagle The Wallace Govs continued their outstanding conference play Sunday afternoon. This time it was with a sweep of the Bevill State Bears. After dominating the Bears with a five inning 13-3 win in game one, the Govs came from behind to win game two 5-2.
“We haven’t been playing great baseball, but we’ve been finding a way to get the job done,” Wallace coach Ryan Ihle said. “We’re getting better. But what I’m most proud of is, we’ve had different guys who have stepped up. Today it was Jake Smith who came up with the big hit.” People are also reading… It was in the bottom of the fifth that Smith came up with his big hit. With the score tied 2-2 and two runners on base, Smith came through with a two-RBI double to centerfield. Grayson Ashe later followed with a long sacrifice fly that accounted for the final run.All it took was a couple of big innings for the Govs to win the first game.
The Bears scored their only three runs in the top of the fifth. But it didn’t take the Govs long to respond in the bottom half of the inning.
