The AMC zombie spinoff series The Walking Dead: Dead City debuts on Rotten Tomatoes with a strong critic rating despite early mixed reviews.
The Walking Dead: Dead City has debuted with a very impressive Rotten Tomatoes score. The miniseries, which premieres on AMC on June 18, is the first new spinoff of the post-apocalyptic series The Walking Dead to air since that show went off the air in November 2022. Dead City will follow The Walking Dead characters Negan and Maggie as they form a reluctant alliance to save Maggie's kidnapped son from a zombie-ravaged Manhattan.

Despite some early reviews, there are enough positive takes for the series to have earned an 83 percent fresh rating at the time of writing.
Is Dead City's RT Score a Sign of Good Things to Come? Now that The Walking Dead has ended, the franchise is splintering off and moving in a variety of new directions. The franchise has already proven its ability to mount a successful spinoff with Fear the Walking Dead, which has been running since 2015. However, the next spinoff The Walking Dead: World Beyond only lasted two seasons, which didn't necessarily bode well for the future of the universe.
Dead City may prove that World Beyond's fate was a mere blip. This is good news for the long-running franchise. It will need to draw in a solid number of viewers for Dead City so it can maintain interest in the remaining Walking Dead spinoffs that are yet to come. The Walking Dead: Dead City is just the opening act of a broader universe. Incoming series will include a series following the adventures of Rick and Michonne after their exit prior to the Walking Dead finale. Additionally, the anthology More Tales from the Walking Dead Universe, and the Daryl Dixon spinoff that follows Norman Reedus' popular character to France will continue with the franchise.
