Tomey won more than 500 games at University of San Diego High and Francis Parker; also coached SDSU women
Jim Tomey, one of six boys high school basketball coaches in San Diego County with 500-plus victories, is retiring.“I have had an awesome ride along the way and a chance to meet and work with some great people.”
Tomey finishes with 526 career wins — 210 at University of San Diego High and 316 at Francis Parker, where his last team went 18-8.He also was the head women’s basketball coach at San Diego State for three seasons. Only Ray Johnson , John Singer , Tom Tarantino , John Olive and Mike Haupt have more wins than Tomey.The 2009-10 Parker team captured the Division IV championship. In 16 seasons at Parker, seven teams won 20 games, including a 28-4 season in 2006-07.Dozens of other former players have gone on to play in college, including Kimo Ferrari , John Merrill , David Abramowicz , Evan Fitzner and Matt Blakely .
