UTSA falls short of program’s first bowl victory, losing to Troy in Cure Bowl

Frank Harris completed 23 of 42 passes for 198 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions, while Barnes carried 21 times for 132 yards. With No. 2 receiver Joshua Cephus out for undisclosed reasons, Zakhari Franklin finished with eight catches for 36 yards and a touchdown, while Chris Carpenter made his first career start and hauled in seven passes for 59 yards.
Harris passed for UTSA’s first offensive points early in the second quarter, scanning right and then looking back over the middle to find Franklin for a 2-yard touchdown and a 9-0 lead. Troy’s average starting field position through its first six drives was its own 11-yard line, with Lucas Dean dropping two punts inside the 5-yard line and a third inside the 10.
UTSA’s offense fell into a rut across the second and third quarters, with turnovers on four consecutive possessions. Harris threw a pair of interceptions and fumbled on a strip sack, while Oscar Cardenas also gave away possession on a fumble after a catch over the middle.
