It’s less hot and humid tomorrow, and rain chances are minimal.
The showers and storms that developed to the Beltway and to the west very quickly swept through Northern Virginia and the District without too much fanfare. A few areas west of Burke and south of Alexandria did pick up some briefly heavy rain; doppler radar indicates up to 1 to 1.5 inches of rain fell locally, but most other areas saw much less.
2:50 p.m. — Storms with heavy rain moving inside Beltway, some flooding could develop in areas hit yesterday Storms with heavy rain and lightning have moved inside the Beltway but so far are not severe. The primary concern is that downpours between Annandale and Alexandria are occurring over the same areas that experienced flooding yesterday; they’re sweeping toward the northeast and could also affect areas in the District where flooding occurred. They may move fast enough, however, so that the rain doesn’t last quite as long.
With storms beginning to develop west and southwest of the Beltway, the National Weather Service has issueduntil 9 p.m. for the immediate Washington and Baltimore areas and locations to the east. “Scattered thunderstorms will develop this afternoon ahead of an approaching cold front,” the Weather Service cautioned. “Some of the storms will become severe, posing a risk of locally damaging wind gusts.”A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for parts of DE, DC, MD, NJ, NC, PA, VA until 9 PM EDT
