According to officials, the flames are burning southwest of Highway 605/Highway 67.
Thursday morning, the fire in De Soto National Forest is still burning. At last check, it was barely contained and burning around 800 acres.HARRISON COUNTY, Miss. - Still seeing smoke around Harrison County ? That’s because a massive wildfire continues to burn in the De Soto National Forest .The good news is, it appears to be spreading at a slower pace now and the fire is at 90% containment. At last check, the blaze covered 850 acres of the forest.
“You could actually, for days, have this kind of smoke generation from all of these stumps and these trees that are on the ground,” said Harrison County Fire Chief Pat Sullivan.Harrison County Fire Rescue, Mississippi Forestry and U.S. Forest are all working the fire.Harrison County Fire Rescue, the Mississippi Forestry Commission and U.S. Forest Service all responded to the fire.We will update this story as we learn more information.
