The National Weather Service issued an updated severe thunderstorm warning at 10:28 a.m. on Sunday in effect until 11 a.m. for Susquehanna and Wayne counties.

Updated: Jun. 30, 2024, 10:35 a.m."At 10:27 a.m., severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Downsville to Starlight to Gibson, moving east at 35 mph. The strongest part of the line was near Fishs Eddy and East Branch, including along Highway 17," according to the weather service. "Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees."

To guarantee your safety in the midst of a thunderstorm, take into account the following recommendations:When venturing outdoors, it's crucial to have a lightning safety plan in place. It's important to remember that lightning can strike even when a storm seems to have passed, so exercise caution. If you find yourself outdoors without access to indoor shelter during a thunderstorm, take these steps to maximize your safety:Steer clear of tall, isolated trees and other prominent objects. In wooded areas, stay close to lower stands of trees.

Do not approach water bodies, wet objects, or metal items. Although water and metal do not attract lightning, they conduct electricity effectively and can pose significant risks. When stopping by the roadside is your only option, position your vehicle as far off the road as possible, ideally beyond guardrails. Keep your headlights on and activate emergency flashers to alert other drivers of your position.
