University, Cleveland Heights make plans for federal grant application on Taylor Road reconfiguration

Officials in both cities hold out hope that East Cleveland will be able to join forces as well at some point.

This rendering shows some of the plan for restoring the Taylor Tudor buildings and the Stadium Square Historic District to their original glory -- and then some -- through the proposed Cain Park Village Revitalization project also on South Taylor Road, with an open house scheduled in the park's Colonnade from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday , focusing on "Public Spaces & Connectivity.

Both proposals would also reduce motorists’ tendencies toward “lane-jockeying” along Taylor, a safety hazard for other drivers as well as the large number of pedestrians crossing the street. -- A new crosswalk near Altamont Road and Synagogue Khal Yereim. This crosswalk would not be controlled by a traffic signal, but would have flashing lights, called Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons .

-- “A new crosswalk could be built near Hebrew Academy in either scenario,” the preliminary study states. “Because the crossing would need to be comfortable and safe for school children, we recommend use of an “RRFB” -- and possibly a median island in the center turn lane to make crossing even easier.
