Western officials hope the arrival of the tanks will give Kyiv’s forces the edge they need to push through Russia’s fierce defenses in their grueling counteroffensive.

Joint Chiefs Chair Gen. Mark Milley spoke Thursday with his Ukrainian counterpart, Gen. Valerii Zaluzhnyi, to discuss the war, according to a press release from Milley’s office.
