Wilson hit the third or fourth hurdle in the 110-meter hurdles, he recalled recently, and finished last in the 24-man field with a time of 14.53 seconds at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. That comfort level was on display in Wednesday’s semifinals, as Wilson posted a school-record time of 13.37. It was the fifth-fastest time in the semifinals and set the American Athletic Conference record, previously a wind-aided 13.40 set by UH’s Amere Lattin in 2019.
To have a chance at a title this week, Wilson said he would need a similarly fast start as his performance at the West Preliminary Round. “There are a bunch of great coaches here with a lot of experience,” Wilson said. “They’ve made great athletes. They can make me great.”
