WASHINGTON—The Trump administration on Tuesday lifted sanctions on a Venezuelan general who broke ranks with the Maduro regime and warned 25 Venezuelan Supreme Court magistrates they will be held accountable unless they back opposition leader Juan Guiadó.

In a speech in Washington, Vice President Mike Pence said Venezuela’s Supreme Court has “become a political tool for a regime that usurps democracy, indicts political prisoners, and promotes authoritarianism.”
