U.S. Adds 130,000 Jobs in August as Hiring Slows Down

The U.S. economy added 130,000 jobs in August, while the unemployment rate held steady at 3.7%

Today's figures come with markets still pricing in a roughly 80% chance of at least two more interest-rate cuts by the Federal Reserve the rest of this year. That is one reason some analysts say a much stronger-than-expected jobs report could increase uncertainty about rate policy and stoke more market volatility, at least on a short-term basis.

Still, some analysts say recent weakness in the manufacturing sector and tariff uncertainty have given the FedFed Chairman Jerome Powell is scheduled to update the public on his outlook in a discussion later Friday with the head of the Swiss National Bank.
