British lawmakers warned that the U.K. may need to speed up the removal of Huawei’s hardware from its 5G networks, following a decision in July to drop the Chinese telecom giant.

The British parliament’s defence committee said on Thursday that it had found"clear evidence of collusion" between telecom equipment giant Huawei and the"Chinese Communist Party apparatus" and called for accelerated removal of Huawei’s equipment from the country’s 5G network before Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s original 2027 deadline.

The findings cite a venture capitalist who claimed that the Chinese government had financed the growth of the telecom equipment maker by investing $75 billion over the past three years, thereby allowing the company to sell its hardware at a “ridiculously low price point.” In response, Huawei said that the report lacks credibility “as it is built on opinion rather than fact.”the Chinese company from its upcoming 5G mobile networks, following pressure from President Donald Trump.“The West must urgently unite to advance a counterweight to China’s tech dominance,” Tobias Ellwood, chairman of the defence committee, said. He added: “We must not surrender our national security for the sake of short-term technological development.
