He threw off of the pitcher’s mound for the first time at Globe Life Field in May, faced hitters for the first time in June and made six minor league rehab starts in July. The 29-year-old posted a 2.50 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 18 innings for both Triple-A Round Rock and Double-A FriscoMahle will rejoin the Rangers’ rotation at a pivotal point against the team directly ahead of them in the AL West standings. Texas trails the second-place Astros by four-and-a-half games and the first-place Seattle Mariners by five-and-a-half games.
A recent downturn from the Rangers’ starting pitchers has made it even harder for Texas to close the gap “As long as I try to not do too much out on the mound, that’s when I’ve been at my best,” said Mahle, who compiled the 24th-highest WAR among all starting pitchers in baseball from 2021-22, according to FanGraphs. “I’m just going to try to remember that and not get ahead of myself and do what I know I can do.
