The Dolphins defeated the San Francisco 49ers 29-17 on Sunday.
Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa pitches the football to running back De’Von Achane during an NFL game against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2024, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla.The San Francisco 49ers-Miami Dolphins game on Sunday afternoon matched two teams hanging on to postseason hopes by their fingernails. And by the time the game kicked off, the 49ers didn’t even have that.
Miami running back De’Von Achane gained 120 yards on 17 rushing attempts. He scored on a 50-yard run with 1:36 remaining to set the final margin.Miami improved to 7-8, with five of the victories coming in the past seven games. The Dolphins had a 1-3 record in the games that Tagovailoa spent on injured reserve with a concussion.
They’re the first teams on the outside of the AFC playoff field in the current standings. But with the Los Angeles Chargers and Denver Broncos at 9-6 in the final two wild-card spots with two weeks remaining in the regular season, a victory apiece for those two teams would eliminate the trio of chasers.
