Trussville voters rejected a $129 increase a year per every $100,000 of their homes' value, while Fultondale residents voted against a roughly $100 a year increase.
Unofficial results were not listed on either cities’ websites or on the Jefferson County Board of Registrars’ websites and efforts to reach Trussville and Fultondale city halls were unsuccessful. Trussville Mayor Buddy Choat, who supported the tax hike, acknowledged in a video shortly before the vote that “the timing may not be perfect” for a proposed increase. But he said it would only cost residents an additional $129 a year for every $100,000 of their homes’ value.
“Part of what we need to do now is to find a way to further that success, and we can only do that with your vote, your support,” he said in a video championing the proposal. “Are the citizens willing to invest a little more in kind of moving the needle a little further in what we’re able to do for our citizens and for the services that we’re willing to provide?”
