Former President Donald Trump vowed to have the government cover the costs for in-vitro fertilization or mandate insurance companies to cover the expense for Am
In a rally in Michigan, Trump said one of the ways he wants to help American families if he were to win a second term is to fully cover the cost of IVF treatments.
“I'm announcing today in a major statement that under the Trump administration, your government will pay for — or your insurance company will be mandated to pay for — all costs associated with IVF treatment,” he said at an event in Michigan. “Because we want more babies, to put it nicely." IVF treatments can cost tens of thousands of dollars for a single round, creating a big financial burden for Americans trying to start a family. Trump did not specify how he would propose to pay for covering the costs but also said that new parents would be able to deduct expenses for caring for newborns from their taxes.earlier this year said that embryos created by IVF were considered to be people, which led to fertility clinics in the state pausing their IVF case.
Vice President Kamala Harris and running mate Tim Walz have claimed that a second Trump administration would bring an end to IVF for families as they try to make abortion and reproductive health a central issue in the 2024 campaign. “The IVF treatments are expensive. It's very hard for many people to do it and to get it, but I've been in favor of IVF right from the beginning,” Trump said on Thursday.
