“I am pleased to announce that the Great Elon Musk, working in conjunction with American Patriot Vivek Ramaswamy, will lead the Department of Government Efficiency ,” Trump said in a statement Tuesday evening.“Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my Administration to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies – Essential to the “Save America” Movement,” Trump continued.
The newly created DOGE will work with the White House and Office of Management and Budget but operate outside of the federal government to create a more efficient bureaucracy. The effort is sent to end July 4, 2026, on the nation’s 250th Independence Day. Last month during a Trump rally in Madison Square Garden, Musk claimed he would identify “at least $2 trillion” of spending that could be eliminated.
Musk previously bought X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, where he touted his support for Trump even going to the point of hosting a live conversation with the president-elect during the campaign season.
