They did exactly what they’re supposed to do,” Donadio said. “They covered him up, protecting him, putting their lives in danger to protect President Trump.”“Those agents that jumped on Trump, I’m certain it went through their minds that that next bullet could be hitting them in the back,” he said. “Being in the Secret Service is a way of life. It is not a job, it is a life-changing event where you make a decision that you may sacrifice your life for who you are protecting.
Similar protocols are also put in place to protect members of audiences at large political gatherings, such as presidential campaign rallies. Security personnel ensure attendees cannot enter with forbidden items, such as guns, knives and bullets. Local and state police also provide additional assistance at such events.
