The Trump administration has reversed a Biden-era policy that barred federal agents from arresting illegal immigrants at churches and schools. Acting Homeland Security Secretary Benjamine Huffman issued a directive allowing ICE agents to make arrests in these locations, stating that illegal immigrants 'will no longer be able to hide' in them. Tom Homan, President Trump's border czar, confirmed that ICE teams have already begun deporting non-citizens and warned sanctuary cities that continue to harbor them.

GUATEMALA CITY, GUATEMALA - MAY 29: An ICE agent with U.S. Homeland Security Investigations , watches as Guatemalan police investigate the scene after detaining a suspected human trafficker on May 29, 2019 in Guatemala City.

"The Trump Administration will not tie the hands of our brave law enforcement, and instead trusts them to use common sense," the spokesperson added. “ICE teams are out there as of today,” Homan said. “We gave them the direction to prioritize public safety threats, that’s what we’re looking for.” “Let me be clear,” he added. “It’s not only public safety threats that will be arrested because in a sanctuary city, we’re not allowed to get that public safety threat in a jail, which means we gotta go into the neighborhood and find him.”

Homan also described Trump’s executive orders on immigration, such as one ending birthright citizenship for illegal migrants, as “game changers.”
