Through the ‘Choose Your Ride’ program, students who may be impaired can now call Troy University Police Department for a free and safe ride home.

Through the"Choose Your Ride" program, students who may be impaired can now call Troy University Police for a free and safe ride home.Chief George Beaudry at Troy University Police Department said there has been a recent uptick in DUIs and wants to lower that number. Since January 1st, 2023, the Troy Police Department has recorded 81 DUIs.

“Don’t be afraid to call us. Honestly, I think it’s a bigger fear to be out there behind the wheel of a car than to call us,” Chief Beaudry expressed. I think they are going to find their officers to be very professional with them, and our officers are going to be casual with them. They may make a contact or connection with the police officer in a positive experience that benefits our agency, benefits our officers, and it benefits us too.

The drop-off and pick-up locations must be within a four-mile radius of Troy’s city limits. Students must have their identification, and during the ride, there will be no stops in between. This program will pick up students under 21 who may be impaired, but they will face disciplinary action from the school.and receive the latest local news and weather straight to your email every morning.
