The Team USA soccer star speaks to Bazaar about her first Games, her off-the-field style and makeup routine, and her problem with the 'tomboy' double standard.
Trinity Rodman is sitting on a makeup chair, getting her acrylic nails filed off and replaced with red, white, and blue striped stick-ons—the original colors of her pro soccer team, the Washington Spirit.“I’m always looking for different designs and patterns,” she says of the funky Gel-X nail art she’s become notorious for. “It’s one of the only ways to stand out when you’re on the field.”The 22-year-old has been playing soccer since age four. In 2021, she went pro and led the D.C.
“People probably classify me as a tomboy, but I don’t believe in that word to refer to athletes. It’s like, okay, because I have to wear a uniform for work, now I’m a tomboy?” Rodman says. “I think athletes like to be comfortable when we can, but at the same time, fashion is becoming more and more normalized for us. Players are being more out there with their game-day fits and even sharing outfit shoots on their feeds, which is so cool.
