Lake County prosecutors said that the massive investigation into the shooting at Highland Park’s Independence Day parade should be wrapping up within the next few months.
Crimo’s attorneys from the public defender’s office said they are reviewing potential evidence in the case, but that a trial date could be set at the defendant’s next court appearance, which is scheduled for Sept. 11.Assistant State’s Attorney Ben Dillon told Judge Victoria Rossetti that since Crimo’s last courtroom appearance in late January, prosecutors have tendered eight CDs to defense attorneys which contain 3,700 pages of documents, investigative materials and reports.
Dillion said there are still outstanding subpoenas for medical records, and prosecutors are awaiting some test results from the FBI. Robert E. Crimo Jr., right, father of Robert E. Authorities say Crimo, 22, was the person who opened fire on the parade crowd from the top of a building in downtown Highland Park, killing seven and wounding dozens with an assault rifle. Authorities say he was able to escape initially by disguising himself as a woman and blending into the panicked crowd.His father, Robert Crimo Jr., was charged with reckless conduct in the case.
