Thursday night's concert, known as Safer Together, will be on both the indoor and outdoor stages at Mohawk. The event, which kicks off at 8 p.m., is free, but donations to the SIMS Foundation are encouraged.
PUBLISHED 1:47 PM CST Nov. 28, 2022Travis County and the SIMS Foundation will host a free concert Thursday night at the Mohawk to kick off the county’s campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of fentanyl.
The county has set aside $350,000 to cover Naloxone doses and peer support for people dealing with drug addiction Travis County and nonprofit recovery groups such as Recovery Unplugged and Safe Haven distributed hundreds of doses of Narcan and Naloxone to bartenders staffing the Austin City Limits Music Festival last October. Christy Mokry of Safe Haven said those efforts will now be extended to training staff at downtown bars.
“On a national level — with the staffing shortages we’re seeing in county and city emergency services — we can be that bridge to extend that lifeline, and hopefully get our services here faster through the use of Narcan,” Moreland said. “We believe we should expand that knowledge and this information to all the venues with our industry.”
