Thu, March 28th 2024 at 10:49 PMThe PA Coalition for Trans Youth and Transgender Advocates Knowledgeable Empowering hosted a rally on March 27th at the State Capitol in support of Trans Day of Visibility.
The Stand Up for Safe and Equal Schools rally was created to share the message of acceptance for local youth and to support the Safe and Equal Schools package of legislation that’s currently in the PA House Education Committee. The legislation is designed to provide safety and equality for transgender students in PA. Anti-discrimination policies, inclusive curriculums, bullying policies, bathroom policies, and sports participation policies are the key components of the package that advocates want to focus on.
“This nonpartisan event is a celebration of Trans Day of Visibility,” says Daye Pope of T.A.K.E in a press release. “The event is meant to bring together neighbors, parents, LGBTQ people, allies, friends, and families, along with advocates and lawmakers, to encourage passing these policy changes that will ensure all students in public schools can get a safe, equal, quality education.”
