Apparently, the Cruise segment was initially planned to be even bigger: A large party was set to take place at Will Rogers State Beach,. But LAPD was concerned about shutting down the Pacific Coast Highway, and there were issues securing the necessary permits from the California Coastal Commission. Still, the action-packed closing ceremony sounds like it’ll be a blast. TMZ wrote that Cruise actually reached out himself to the International Olympic Committee about setting something up to connect the Paris Games to the L.A. edition—which makes sense when you consider that Cruise has historically been a fan of the Olympics. Back in 2004, he carried the Olympic torch in L.A. as part of the relay to the Athens Games.
