Certainly, the players were to blame as well. Toews didn't score until the 26th game; McCabe and Jones struggled early on; Johnson got injured; and the players just didn't mesh on the ice at all. "That was the first coaching change I've had in the middle of a season," said Jones, who did finish with a career-high 46 assists."That was a little bit difficult with guys getting readjusted to that.
Johnson played in the first eight games, then missed four months after having artificial disc replacement surgery. By the time he returned, the Hawks were 19-27-8.The way back machine Connor Murphy broke into the NHL with Arizona in 2013-14, but it was the next year in 2015, that left a truly foul taste in the defenseman's mouth. The Coyotes were actually 16-20-4 after 40 games, but then won just 5 of the next 33 games en route to a 24-50-8 record.
Where is everyone? Max Domi was chosen 12th overall by Arizona in 2013 and played three years for the Coyotes before being traded to Montreal in June 2018. Domi pumped in a career-high 28 goals for the Canadiens in 2018-19 and 17 more in the pandemic-shortened 2019-20 campaign.
