WSFA 12 News kicked off the first of two days of runoff debates Monday focused on Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District.
MOBILE, Ala. - WSFA 12 News will air the second of two runoff debates Tuesday focused on Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District.
The Democrat runoff, which airs at 4 p.m. Tuesday, will feature Shomari Figures, a former deputy chief of staff to the U.S. AG Merrick Garland, against Alabama House Minority Leader Anthony Daniels. The four candidates recently joined WSFA and WALA for the latest debate, which was recorded at Government Plaza in Mobile. The event was held in partnership with the Alabama Republican Party, the Alabama Democratic Party and the Mobile Chamber of Commerce.
In addition to being seen on-air and on WSFA’s website and mobile news app, they will be made available afterward for on-demand viewing.The 2nd District seat, once reliably in GOP hands, was redrawn by court order to give African-Americans and other minorities a chance to elect a minority candidate. U.S. Rep. Barry Moore, who currently holds the seat, jumped into the GOP primary race in neighboring District 1, beating the incumbent.
