Tipico is no more; May sees uptick in bets: Ohio sports betting update

Ohio had more sports bets in May 2024 than it did last year,

Ohio’s betting apps, in-person betting lounges and kiosks brought in a combined $613 million in bets, up from just $448 million in May 2023, according to compiled data from the Ohio casino control and lottery commission.

Of the $613 million bet on sports in May, just over $595 million was wagered on betting apps. Another $16 million was wagered at in-person betting lounges and $1 million was bet on kiosks. Sports gambling revenue is taxed at 20%. The state will get about $12 million of taxes from May’s betting.Tipico announced on June 24 that it would sell its U.S. sportsbook and online casino to LeoVegas, a company under the MGM Resorts umbrella that is also BetMGM’s parent company. With the sale, Tipico winded down its U.S. operations but still has to settle bets players made on the app.
