A man suspected of headbutting Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp has been charged with assault and faces a lifelong ban from Nottingham Forest
“An extensive police investigation was quickly launched following the incident which left the player requiring medical treatment.Assistant Chief Constable Rob Griffin, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “I am pleased we have now charged a suspect in connection with this assault. This is a result of hard work done throughout the night and today involving numerous police departments.
“We continue to work closely with both football clubs who are supporting our investigation following this incident.
The incident marred a memorable night for the Reds who booked their ticket to Wembley for the Championship play-off final later this month. Leading 2-1 from Saturday’s first leg at Bramall Lane, Forest were beaten by the same score line on Tuesday, sending the tie to extra-time before the the Tricky Trees were eventually victorious after a tense penalty shootout.
