Suspicious packages found in NYC subway stations deemed not explosive.

Two suspicious packages reported in a downtown New York City Subway station during Friday's morning rush were determined to be rice cookers and not explosives, police said.

The New York Police Department also investigated a third suspicious package at 16th Street and 7th Avenue in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood but shortly after said the package had been"fully investigated and deemed safe." It was also described as a rice cooker. The NYPD Bomb Squad investigated - and then cleared - these devices found August 16 at the Fulton Street subway station. The NYPD's Counterterrorism Bureau tweeted a picture of what appeared to be two pressure cookers in the subway station, but assured:"They are NOT explosive devices."

Earlier, at about 7:40 a.m., the NYPD had advised people to avoid the Fulton Street Subway station and the surrounding area in Manhattan's Financial District. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced at 9:23 a.m. that most train lines were stopping again at Fulton Street. Officers also searched nearby stations"out of an abundance of caution," according to the NYPD Counterterrorism Bureau.
