At the launch of Miu Miu Select, the model-turned-mommy Gigi Hadid talks us through the thrill of Miami excess.
Last night, while the art world descended on South Beach, I sacrificed two hours in traffic to meet the ultimatemuse, Miss Gigi Hadid, at the brand’s design district store. Inside, the model sat perched at a desk in a corporate cool girl fit while fashion fans pressed their faces up against the windows.
HADID: I’m signing these tags, and the first people buy from my Select will get this sewn into their piece. So it’s part of the fun.HADID: Right. I feel very at my Miu Miu desk right now. HADID: Yes. Someone just told me that my tights ran in the back, and I told them that it’s part of the vibe.HADID: I think that what my Select shows is that I wake up on different days feeling like such a different girl.
SCARABELLI: I feel that. What do you think about Miami style? Have you been people watching since you got here? HADID: Yes. I just generally love anyone that is expressing themselves. I don’t think that there’s styles or trends that I don’t like. If someone’s pulling it off and it’s true to them, I love it. What irks me more is when you can tell someone’s sticking to a trend so hard that they’re uncomfortable in what they’re wearing.HADID: Yeah, if it’s excess and it makes sense for them, then I’m obsessed. I love something a little campy.HADID: I’m more of a smaller artist type of buyer.
