Collage of Jenna Ortega in Wednesday with the original 60s Addams Family cast
Netflix’s Wednesday has the perfect way to reference the original Addams Family series from the ‘60s, and the Jenna Ortega show has to use it in a future season. The Addams Family originated as a series of New Yorker comics by Charles Addams, but the characters in these comics were never given personalities or backstories or even names. It wasn’t until they were adapted into a half-hour series on ABC in 1964 that they were rounded out into the characters that fans know and love today.
Wednesday Having A Black-And-White Episode Would Bring The Franchise Full Circle It Would Be A Great Callback To The Addams Family Series From The '60s ✕ Remove Ads Wednesday could bring the Addams Family franchise full circle with a black-and-white episode. It would be the perfect way to call back to the classic sitcom that started it all. It would acknowledge the series’ roots — without that old sitcom, Wednesday wouldn’t exist. The Addams Family walked so Wednesday could run.
Wednesday director Tim Burton has already proven he’s not averse to including a black-and-white interlude in one of his horror projects. In Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, when Betelgeuse is explaining his marriage to his ex-wife in the land of the living and how she eventually came to despise him, Burton shows the flashback as a parody of black-and-white Italian horror films.
