Sure, you've had the cult soda with barbecue, but why not combine the two into one dish?
the beverage is distributed by the Dr. Pepper Snapple Group and headquartered in Austin. In fact, the city of Austin is so devoted to the drink that they have a "Barbacoa and Big Red Festival" each year. Which brings me to what is perhaps Big Red's most important function in Texas and the South: as an accompaniment to barbecue.
Stir one can of Big Red soda and 1/2 cup of a store-bought barbecue sauce—don't choose one that's too sweet, since you'll get plenty of sugar from the soda—in slow cooker. Place your pork in the slow cooker, cover it with a lid, and cook it on low. As it simmers, spoon the juices over top of the pork or turn it occasionally to make sure everything cooks evenly in lots of sauce. Cook the pork until the meat is very tender and falls apart when shredded with two forks, about 8 hours.
