It also boasts the highest median STEM wage in the U.S. at $102,826. It is close to Washington, D.C., and it has a high concentration of major defense contractors such as BAE Systems, Northrop Grumman and Lockheed Martin who rely on workers proficient in science, engineering and mathematics.
