A trip to New England in the fall should be on any foliage fan’s bucket list and you’ll be able to see some spectacular autumnal leaves in Boston. Some of the best spots for what tourist boards just love to call ‘leaf-peeping’ include Boston Common and the Public Garden, which has a lagoon in the middle; the tree-lined riverside paths of the Boston Esplanade ; and the Arnold Arboretum, for obvious reasons .

You’ll also be within day-trip distance of Rhode Island, Maine and Cape Cod. Added bonus: September and October are the end of the whale-watching season, so you may just be graced by a sighting.
