Sony has officially set the release date for the sequel to the hit video game adaptation, The Last of Us. The film, titled 'The Last of Us Part II,' will hit theaters on January 16, 2026, on Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend. Filming took place back-to-back with the first film, and the plot details have finally been revealed.

It'll hit theaters June 20, 2025, but Sony has now set an official release date for the following chapter, which filmed back-to-back with, a title that had previously leaked but is now formally confirmed, is slated for release Jan. 16, 2026, on Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend.
The new story focuses on a group of survivors living on a small island, which is connected to the mainland by a single, heavily guarded causeway., previously explained,"It centers on a young boy who wants to find a doctor to help his dying mother. He leads his mother through this beautiful Northern English terrain. But, of course, around them hiding in forests and hills and woods are the infected.
Fiennes plays said doctor, and it's presumed that Alfie Williams plays the boy and Comer plays the mother.. One scene in the footage shows Comer and Fiennes' characters moving among a man-made forest where the trees appear to be comprised of bones. In the center is, essentially, a Christmas tree of stacked bones.
