His comments about running the ball more to keep his defense fresh created a stir on social media.
Of the 32 teams in the NFL, 10 finished with over 500 rushing attempts, which included the Cowboys and three other postseason teams. It’s not about more attempts, but the efficiency to make second and third down manageable. McCarthy wants to disguise his run and pass schemes to keep defenses guessing. So McCarthy makes sense here.
The Cowboys love Elliott, but what’s the price to keep him? Elliott’s representatives have yet to meet with team officials here. The easiest thing for the Cowboys to do is to cut Elliott, saving $10.9 million and spreading out dead money over two seasons. Elliott’s people believe there’s a market for him. Josh Jacobs, Saquon Barkley, Pollard, Miles Sanders, David Montgomery and Leonard Fournette are also seeking deals in the running back market.
