The best Christmas hotels in London, including the ones serving Christmas afternoon tea.

It’s only November but you’d never know it in central London, where hotel tree launch parties and light switch-ons have been stealthily taking place for several days now. So if you’re looking for a Christmas-obsessed hotel in London, you won’t be disappointed, with giant trees, elaborate illuminations, Bavarian installations and even the odd appearance by a Shetland pony. London is one of the most photogenic places to spend Christmas, even if snow isn’t always a given.

Mandarin Oriental Hyde ParkA shiny new Mandarin Oriental outpost arrived in the capital this year and just in time to mark its first festive season, it has unveiled its glamorous rooftop bar. A tree designed by the Korean artist Lee Gil Rae will be in place for Christmas, too. Over at the original edition in Hyde Park, Knightsbridge becomes Bavaria, with the arrival of the Winterhaus, which aims to transport guests to the land where many of our most cherished Christmas traditions began.

The PeninsulaOne of the newest luxury hotels in London is The Peninsula, which made a rather extravagant debut last year. This Christmas, a festive afternoon tea, featuring bauble-shaped treats and dulce de leche gingerbread, will be served in the lobby; favourite films such as Elf, The Holiday and The Polar Express will be screened in the cinema; a market will be held on certain days in the courtyard and Santa Claus himself will be making frequent appearances.
