At the Cut, we chat all day long about the products we love — the ones so good they’ll make you hit that little “auto-refill” box at checkout. So we started asking our favorite beauty pros to share their selections. Here, Harold James shares theirs.

James has always been interested in beauty, but his career in makeup artistry began as an accident. “One day, my friend was busy attending to two clients in his private salon and asked me to quickly take care of one of them,” he says. “I began applying a smoky eye to the client, pretending to be a real makeup artist to help my friend. The client said she felt amazing for her date,” and the rest was history. Over the years, he’s learned a lot from his clients.
I never leave the house without putting on my favorite fragrance. I’ve been using the same perfume for years:, which I apply by pressing onto my entire face and neck. It’s a Japanese nectar with eight natural and ancestral Asian ingredients., which fights against the effects of free radicals on my skin. My skin has never looked so beautiful and healthy since using this combination.
Lastly, I use the Ware Company’s Sonny SPF40 face serum to protect my skin from the sun. It perfectly shields my skin and doesn’t leave any white residue.

Ariana Grande's R.E.M. Beauty to Host Pop-Up Event at Ulta BeautyR.E.M. Beauty, the cosmetics line created by Ariana Grande, will host a pop-up event at Ulta Beauty at the Alpha Parkway Plaza on March 27 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The pop-up is called Hypernova Hotel, and although the “Yes, And?” singer won’t be present, her presence will be felt. R.E.M. Beauty is a direct extension of Grande’s brand, with products like the Sweetener Concealer and the Thank, U Next Plumping Lip Gloss taking their names from two of her albums. The marketing and packaging for Grande’s products also reflect a space-age aesthetic seen in several of her music videos, such “Break Free” and “34+35.” If past iterations of this event are to be believed, Hypernova Hotel’s Dallas pop-up will surely expand on that. Launching in promotion of both R.E.M. Beauty’s new Hypernova product line and (presumably) Grande’s science fiction-inspired new record, this event’s previous outings in Paris and Santa Monica have boasted glossy, girly and retrofuturistic decor.
