Some Bay Area agencies have responded to up to three times the number of potholes this year than in years past.

"This year has been particularly challenging," Ney said."There's definitely been historic rainfall this year, and we've had some pretty strong impacts, potholes being one of them." Crews in San Francisco filled 1,029 potholes within 72 hours of being reported in January, 1,580 in February and 1,746 in March, according to Gordon. During drier months, the city typically only receives between 400 to 600 pothole service requests. As of Thursday, San Francisco had 270 pothole service orders in its queue and"should get to them pretty quickly," Gordon said.
